You are 100% correct. Further, stock options granted are expensed as stock based compensation and treated the same as wages/payroll in financial statement. Stock options value is determined by the Black Scholes model by all public companies (or similar models) and required under both US GAAP and IFRS. 

So my point is that stock options are granted however vest over a period of service provided to the company. 

We are all wasting our time on this matter.
