Orogenic Gold Deposits
In Newfoundland drilling by Sokoman, Newfound Gold, Labrador Gold, and a number of other companies are delineating orogenic gold deposits. These deposits are being compared to the Fosterville Mine in Australia as they are of the same type.
Geologist have a good understanding of how orogenic rock structures work. These are hydrothermal mineral deposits. Simply put, hot water from deep in the earth's crust carrying minerals migrate up through faults and shear zones created by movement of tectonic plates, i.e., land masses crashing into each other or separating. As the mineral rich water migrates up the minerals get deposited.
Geologist are guided by the accumulated knowledge of how these orogenic systems work and by modern geophysical survey methods both airborne and ground based. It is well know that mineral grade increase with depth. Geologists are not guided by just blind luck. Here is a more in-depth and technical discription of orgenic systems on wikipedia:

Geezer you are the greatest source of non information....stop tying up the board with such silliness. Orogenic gold is 2/3 rds of all the gold on the planet. Epizonal orogenic structures are what we are after. We can go to wikipedia ourselves we do not need you. IKE

Tying up the board??!! 4-8 posts per day and you are complaining they are tying up the board? Why don't you come down off your pedestal. Hedge
