RE:Conservative's Plan to promote RNG
RE:Conservative's Plan to promote RNGMy compliments to the Canadian government for their plan to requiring a 15% blend of RNG in the natural gas stream by 2030. This percentage can be seamlessly increased over time as RNG is the idential methane molecule to fossil natural gas but is MUCH more environmentally friendly to produce in addition to 100% renewable due to an inexhaustible supply of organic waste from which to produce RNG. They are missing out, however, on the tremendous potential of RNG for transportation. Electric transportation and hydrogen fuel cell transportation both have a significantly higher carbon cost than RNG transportation. That is because RNG is the only Carbon Negaive, Near Zero Emission fuel due to the collection of biogas from organic waste to produce RNG. Biogas is a bad Greenhouse Gas that, unless captured to produce RNG, is released to the atmosphere. 70% of the Class 8 trucks in California that use natural gas as fuel are using 100% RNG as their fuel. The ability to replace diesel fuel TODAY with RNG using Westport Fuel Systems HPDI 2.0 on Class 8 trucks is a game changer. Not only does RNG have less emissions than diesel, the replacement of diesel will get rid of the particulate matter from diesel combustion that causes the devastating smog pollution in major cities--especially China and India. There are NO commercially available Total Electric or Hydrogen Fuel Cell Class 8 over the road trucks available today--or in the near future. VOLVO FH LNG trucks using HPDI 2.0 technology are available today and grabbing an increasing market share of these vehicles in Europe. RNG for transportation will be a boon for RNG production and for Xebec.
