Conservative's Plan to promote RNG

One part of the new Conservative plan to combat climate change focuses on promoting renewable natural gas. This is what they propose:

Increase the supply of renewable gas by requiring 15% blending (by energy content) in the natural gas stream by 2030 (Renewable Gas Standard). Methane generated from agriculture and landfills, as well as hydrogen qualify for compliance.

This policy is a huge step for conservatives, going from a denial to mitigation. Basically, there's no opposition for environmental responsibility anymore. The discussion will be only about how much, going forward. The 15% will be the minimum standard that will be made in law Canada wide after next election as I think that the other 2 parties will try to beat them and each other on ...more

Promoting RNG may sound interesting by itself but when looking at the Conservative Party's broader stance on environment, it's somewhat hard to take them seriously. For instance, less than a month ago, during their party's convention  'Conservative delegates at the party's policy convention have voted to reject adding green-friendly statements to the policy book ...more

I agree. Another significant implication will be that the media will start comparing the different environmental plans, which will bring focus on RNG. My sense is that most people have little understanding of it, and that translates into lower recognition of the potential for XBC. People need to start seeing that there are more options for low carbon energy than just wind and solar.

My compliments to the Canadian government for their plan to requiring a 15% blend of RNG in the natural gas stream by 2030.  This percentage can be seamlessly increased over time as RNG is the idential methane molecule to fossil natural gas but is MUCH more environmentally friendly to produce in addition to 100% renewable due to an inexhaustible supply of organic waste from which to produce ...more

Yeah, LNG is so common in EU you'd be surprised. Filling stations are everywhere. All they need to source the gas from renewables. Although so far it is mostly used on converted gasoline engines.
