Net Zero Today With RNG

Trucking companies are making bold commitments to cut their carbon footprint, such as becoming net zero by a certain date. After the commitment is made, the hard work begins. Achieving net zero or better requires more than operational improvements. Renewable natural gas (RNG) has emerged as the leading pathway for low carbon, clean air trucking and is helping sustainable companies decarbonize their transportation today.

RNG is produced from green waste, food waste, landfills, sewage treatment, and livestock manure. These organic wastes naturally decompose into methane. Methane that leaks into the atmosphere is a potent greenhouse gas. Rather than releasing into the atmosphere and causing harm, methane can be captured and converted into a drop-in replacement for conventional natural gas.

When used for vehicle fueling, RNG reduces carbon two-fold. First by capturing methane that would escape into the atmosphere. Second, by replacing high carbon diesel fuel with low carbon RNG. RNG from dairy manure and food waste is even subzero carbon. For example, RNG produced from dairy manure has carbon emissions that can be over 500% lower than diesel.

Many areas of the U.S. have harmful air quality and diesel trucks play an oversized role in local air pollution. Air pollution contributes to respiratory, cardio, and other illnesses. Studies have linked local air pollution to susceptibility to COVID-19, Alzheimer’s disease, and cancer. Diesel trucks emit high amounts of local air pollutants such as oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and diesel particulate matter. Trucks powered by RNG have 90% to 98% lower NOx emissions than diesel trucks and eliminate 100% of the diesel particulate matter pollution.

With skyrocketing diesel prices, RNG fuel costs less than diesel fuel. RNG prices are also less volatile than petroleum fuel. RNG trucks have a maintenance benefit due to a simpler emissions control system consisting of a passive catalytic converter that requires no maintenance, unlike a diesel truck with a complex diesel particulate filter and selective catalytic reduction system.

Climate pollution and air pollution are problems that exist today, not far in the future. While it is noteworthy for companies to make aspirational goals to achieve net zero carbon emissions in the future, RNG trucks offer the ability to achieve net zero immediately. RNG truck technology has been proven and perfected over the past 14 years. RNG engines are mass produced by Cummins and RNG trucks are produced by Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, and Mack. RNG fueling infrastructure is available throughout North America.

Trucking in the future will have a number of clean technology options such as RNG, battery electric, and hydrogen. Companies like Amazon, UPS, Waste Management, SAIA, Estes, and TTSI are deploying thousands of RNG trucks today. What do these sustainability-leading companies know? RNG is the lowest carbon fuel available and offers an affordable alternative to diesel today that is proven and scalable.

Go truckers go! To all those who thought they were pathetic. They are doing it for all canadians. This has gone too far, when it could have been avoided from then first place. Funny how suddenly the narrative of many politicians have changed quite quickly.

IMO They are still pathetic. They talk about democracy lol. They only make up 10% of the truckers  Less for the rest of Canada. I am surprised that you could agree with a bunch of wahoos that only care about themselves. Their funding is mostly international as well so they are being used for disruption purposes likes mobs thruoghout history..
Comment by ZouZS3 on Feb 16, 2022 8:50pm
What do you mean 10%? If you think it's only the 10% truckers that are out there you are wrong. Guess I sympathize because of the way it was handdled from the fringe minority up in parliament hill. I might be more against how the PM has handdled it from the very start and the lies & the division that was fueled by our leader.

I said 10 % of the truckers as in the other 90% of the truckers got vaxxed. I don't like Trudeau either but I didn't like any of the alternatives any better.I am also tired of Covid and the restrictions. But people are still dying every day but at least not at the rate that they were before we had a vaccine. When I was young ,I was rebellious too.Over time I realiized it is easier to ...more

Zous, Fog off with these brainless political statements, or you will go on ignore. The percentage of truckers in the country supporting this occupation and insurrection is very low. The percentage of Canadians vaccinated is very high. The support for democracy is univeral and support for removing the blockades is very high. Well said westcoast, my thoughts exactly... and commercial and private licenses pulled, leins on equipment and bank accounts, travel restrictions from leaving the country until court cases heard and judgements made.  Dumb dumbs left the plates on their trucks.

Westcoast made the best post I've seen on this board in ages. I was very happy to see them  freezing accts etc.   Anarchists and  right wing wackos took over and ran these protests. Turdo should have acted sooner.   Those f a c Kers are lucky the silent majority is so passive. If  I had a terminal illness I'd be tempted to head down there with an uzi, lol ...more

Too many to list but here's a couple , and all are jmho  For a company this size I think they've taken on way more than they can chew. It will take a lot of capital to integrate all their takeovers  to set up  servicing of their products sold, which seem fairly spread out all over the map. I think their working capital ratios will come in at close to 1:1 this q so will ...more

What I'm trying to understand is why are you still following the stock if your so negative about it and not even invested? You have such a deep analysis. If I was not invested I wouldn't be on this board anymore. Please clarify! Why are you following the story so closely ?
Comment by Ciao on Feb 17, 2022 8:46pm
The stock is doing poorly on it's own. No need for subtle bashing :-)   Sometimes they're just looking to get in at a lower price. "There are a few who just enjoy stirring the pot but usually if a person sells their position in a stock, they leave any chats or forums where that stock is the main topic of discussion. Why wouldn't they? Who wants to sit and talk about a ...more

Look the big short is cleantech and any tech, anything that doesn't have positive cash flow or for that matter earnings plus a bank-like balance sheet. All because the US interbank rate will go from essentially zero to maybe 50 bp in March. Innovation is over, there will be no more growth. This has nothing to do with XBC. The big pair trade is long fossil fuels and short cleantech. And what ...more

Perhaps Ferret should spend more time looking at his holding in VFF and ask those same questions. Objectively, which company has the highest risk, which company's share price has a better chance to double or triple from current levels? https://citronresearch.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Citron-presents-the-Red-Flags-Why-the-SEC-should-investigate-Village-Farms.pdf

you are not wrong about equity dropping a bit but would this not have been accounted for with losses incurred by the legacy hangover and if they are indeed break even or minimal loss in q4 I would expect equity to not drop any further and reverse course this year.

I'll see if this will be my last post here on VFF on the board here; The VFF report may be old, published in 2019, but it's relevant, you still have the same CEO who has partnered with shady promoters "In 2017, Village Farms was a failed tomato farmer on the brink of bankruptcy that found a way to revitalize its stock price with a “joint venture” with Emerald Health Therapeutics ...more
