The investments include mining infrastructure development in Kalimantan, new contracts on mineral and coal, coal energy manufacturing, and coal liquefaction. Hadi Suprapto, Ferial reported in VIVAnews.
"We invite Canadian investor to join the mining project," said the Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro in his welcoming speech at the Canadian Mining Discussion to Indonesia meeting on Monday, March 16.
Despite the negative response from several people to the new law on mineral and coal, Yusgiantoro said that there are still many countries proposing for mining investments in Indonesia.
The Canada Ambassador for Indonesia John Holmes said that the Canadian government will approach mining associations in Indonesia for having a whole description on Indonesia's mining.
"The Canada's mining industry has possessed a strong international focus," he said.
Now, there are around 1,000 Canadian mineral exploration companies which are actively operating in other countries. In 2007, the Canadian mining company's abroad investment reached more than US$50 billion.
