I think one of the big problems with split shares is that there is a large subset of investors that are lured by the large monthly paid yield and the high quality holdings without a full grasp of what they invested in. A long term investor should absolutely average down. This is much easier to do with a straightforward equal weight fund. The split share class A shares have inherent volatility by design. This is why it's such a great instrument for daytraders, and short term investors. It doesn't mean it's a bad instrument for buy and hold investors, they just have to be very careful about their entry/exit points and be prepared to endure a bumpy ride of wild price fluctuations and temporary distribution halts at times.
