Despite flatness in the energy sector, Canada’s main stock index continued its climb to record high territory on Wednesday. The tech, health care, and mining sectors also moved lower, while the financial, industrials, and utilities closed higher.

The S&P 500 rose for the sixth consecutive day, while oil prices saw early declines, only to bounce back later in the day after hitting multi-year highs in the previous session.

The Canadian dollar traded for 81.16 cents US compared with 80.93 cents US on Tuesday.
Crude oil prices were up $1.29 to $84.25.
The price of gold was up 15.48 to $1,784.53.
In world markets, the Nikkei was up 40.03 points to 29,255.55, the Hang Seng was up 348.81points to 26,136.02, the FTSE was up 5.57 points to 7,223.10, and the DAX was up 7.09 points to 15,522.92.
