Junior miner jumps on gold drill results

TORONTO (SHfn) – St Andrew Goldfields (TSX: T.SAS, Stock Forum) shares climbed 24% to $1 on Monday after the gold miner reported results from the ongoing underground exploration drilling program on the Smoke Deep Zone at the Holloway Mine in the Timmins mining district of northeastern Ontario, which included 5.83 grams per tonne (g/t) gold over 80.3 metres.

As well, shares of Petro Vista Energy (TSX: V.PTV, Stock Forum) shot up 40% to 30 cents as the oil and gas explorer/developer announced that the 7-TTG-1DP-SES development well on the Tartaruga Block in Brazil has been successfully drilled to a total depth of 3,445 metres. Logging and initial petrophysical interpretations on the well identified 11 zones of interest. Strong oil and gas shows (C1 to C5) identified on mudlog and oil in cuttings were observed throughout the reservoir section (2,900m MD to 3,445m MD). Petro Vista holds a 37.5% working interest (27.23% net revenue interest) in the Tartaruga Block in partnership with Petrobras Brasilia S.A., and operator UP Petroleo Brasil Ltda.

Lorus Therapeutics (TSX: T.LOR, Stock Forum), meanwhile, reported that the production of the first clinical batch of its anticancer drug candidate LOR-253 has been successfully completed. An Investigational New Drug (IND) application for LOR-253 is being finalized for filing with the U.S. FDA for a Phase I dose escalation trial in selected solid tumors. Lorus stock popped 40% to 10.5 cents.

Shares of Etrion Corporation (TSX: T.ETX, Stock Forum) powered 31% higher to 88 cents after the Canadian energy firm said it has signed a definitive sale and purchase agreement to acquire a portfolio of Deutsche Bank solar assets in Italy for 10.3 million Euros plus a contingent deferred payment of 1.5 million Euros. The Deutsche Bank assets being acquired include six megawatts (MW) of operating assets and 10 MW of permitted projects ready for construction in the Puglia region plus a pipeline of more than 150 MW in various stages of permitting.

And, Blue Note Mining (TSX: V.BNT, Stock Forum) Monday announced that it is currently preparing a drill program to test previously identified zones of gold mineralization that were drilled but never followed up on at its 100%-owned Chimo gold property near Val-d'Or, Quebec. Its shares added as much as 17% at 14 cents.
