Communication companies react to Verizon rumour: Canadian market movers

On Thursday, the top TSX mover was Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX: T.RCI.B). The stock lost 2.9% and was trading at $40.45 on volume of 4.6 million.

The communications company along with Telus Corp. (TSX: T.T), which fell 3% and was trading at $29.74 on volume of 3.9 million shares, were both active after rumours spread that Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ), a U.S. wireless operator, is planning to enter the Canadian market by offering a bid for Wind Mobile.

Cream Minerals Ltd. (TSX: V.CMA) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It fell 50% and was trading at $0.005 on volume of 3.9 million.

The mineral exploration company had no available reports that correlated to the falling stock value.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Playfair Mining Ltd. (TSX: V.PLY). It rose 100% and was trading at $0.01 after 2.3 million shares changed hands.

The exploration and development company had no related news to explain the high volume in trading.
