Here are the most active stocks on Monday mid-morning on the TSX and TSX Venture Exchange.

On Monday, the top TSX mover was Encana Corp. (TSX: T.ECA, Stock Forum). The stock was up 3.0% and was trading at $21.05 on volume of 5.7 million.

On January 24, the oil and gas company’s Executive Vice-President, Exploration & Business Development, David Hill, presented at the CIBC 17th Annual Whistler Institutional Investor Conferene.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX: T.BTO, Stock Forum) was the second most active stock on the TSX. It gained 2.5% and was trading at $2.85 on volume of 4.8 million shares.

On January 22, the gold producer announced an initial inferred resource estimate for the recently discovered Wolfshag zone at the Otjikoto gold project in Namibia of 6.8 million tonnes at 3.2 grams per tonne gold containing 703,000 ounces gold.

Sparton Resources Inc. (TSX: V.SRI, Stock Forum) was the volume leader on the TSX Venture Exchange. It lost 50% and was trading at $0.005 on volume of 9.6 million.

On January 8, the exploration and development company reported that its Chairman, Edward G. Thompson reduced his activity in the junior mining sector by resigning as a member of the company’s Board of Directors and as its Corporate Secretary.

The second most active stock on the TSX Venture was Sultan Minerals Inc. (TSX: V.SUL, Stock Forum). It fell 50% and was trading at $0.005 after 8.4 million shares changed hands.

The natural resource company had no related news to explain the high volume in trading.
