It’s been an active week for tech with Contagious Gaming (TSX: V.CNS, Stock Forum) making significant moves to solidify its position in the UK with its lead offering Goal Time, an innovative live, in-play pari-mutuel sports betting platform, when the company announced inking an affiliate deal four days ago with Pronto Gaming to sell, distribute and promote Goal Time within its network in the UK.

Contagious already has a partnership agreement with Trinity Mirror, one of UK’s largest multimedia publishers, to provide distribution, sales and marketing support through its UK newspapers under the Trinity Mirror brand, so this affiliate agreement really added the icing to the cake, solidifying the company’s position within the region. Goal Time just may score Contagious a lucrative profit. It will be interesting to see how its aims to provide instant online lottery products in the US pans out, but the company is focusing on its gambling line first before it moves onto its other segment, so I guess we’ll have to wait. Investors gave Contagious a nod today as shares were up 1.85% to $0.55 per share.

Fundamental Applications (CSE: FUN, Stock Forum) is pushing up that hill at speed and celebrated its first major milestone in the deployment of its ground-breaking anonymous mobile chat app, Serum™, when the company announced that its first app offering was now available for download on the iTunes Store.

The company is lean still, but like a muscled greyhound, this one is poised to go the distance. Julian Ing, Director and Co-founder of Fundamental and storied entrepreneur, has a crazy good track record which includes his involvement with the immensely successful Mob Wars, one of the first Facebook apps said to have generated US$1.0 million per month. On the financial and business side, CEO Justin Rasekh, brings a boatload of tech sector and finance experience to the table. Both were also quick to point out when I spoke to them recently, that Fundamental wasn’t a one-trick pony and amazing as Serum was, it was only the first in a long line of anonymous, fun, intelligent and socially relevant mobile apps due to hit the pipeline.

All the pieces seem to be in place, the only factor yet to be considered is adoption. Social media platforms play to a fickle crowd as companies attempt to stay ahead of the curve and map out the next trend. The company intends to push to critical mass of 1.0 million users by 2015 and is in the process of doing deals to facilitate that. Can’t talk about them yet, but believe me, they have huge potential. Shares jumped 29.63% to $0.35 per share as a result of the news. Just so you know, I think there’s way more headroom on this company’s valuation.

Redknee Solutions (TSX: RKN, Stock Forum) jumped for joy today as the company was recognized as one of the fastest growing companies on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500. This is good news as the company is steadily working to rebuild its market value after a disappointing first nine months of the fiscal year which saw the company post a net comprehensive loss of $5.2 million which made a dismal comparison to the $706,217 in profit listed during the same 2013 period. It should be said that revenues were up significantly, but so were the costs of revenue, effectively nullifying any positive effects.

In their favor however, the company has signed at least ~$54 million in orders from various Tier 1 operators of mobile and communications services since August to provide B2B back-end real-time monetization and subscriber management software. If the company can keep costs down and maintain their marketing, they might have a chance at a profitable December. But results have yet to be released and are expected to be published in an investor conference call on November 20, 2014. This doesn’t necessarily bode well when a company needs to explain its financial standing, but at present, I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Speaking of which, traders showed some love today in the market and the company’s share price bumped 5.01% on the news to $3.875 per share. Let’s hope that love was well-founded.

PRE-IPO OPPORTUNITIES

With the explosion in the Canadian tech space and the tech sector in general, I thought it might be of interest to let our readerships know about some private companies not on the public radar yet, so any accredited investors who read this column may have the opportunity to take a gander at the deals taking place outside the public marketplace. Here’s an incredibly quick snapshot of what’s on the table today:

Sharetribe, based out of Helsinki, raised $1.0 million in seed money today so that it can continue developing its peer-to-peer marketplace platform where members can rent or sell products, services or spaces to each other. The company has already raised $190,000 in funding in two previous rounds from Start-Up Chile starting the ball rolling in the first round with $40K. You can check out the company here.

Bipsync, based out of Palo Alto, California, added $1.5 million to their coffers so they can move forward with their development of a research automation platform to optimize the productivity of professional investors. There was one round with three investors, Steadfast Venture Capital, David Eisner, CEO at TheMarkets, and Russell Siegelman, Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. You can check out the company here.

Arena Online, based out of Houston, Texas, is looking for $750,000 in seed money in order to develop automated online tournaments where gamers of all skill levels can compete for cash and prizes with an equal chance to win. No one has stepped up to the plate yet, so maybe this might be of immediate interest. Check out the company here.
