Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL) today launched its Odyssey®
Guide & File solution, which provides courts with a powerful suite of
tools to guide pro se litigants, also known as self-represented
litigants, through the process of completing court forms and filing
cases online. Courts can now easily create Web-based interviews for
their court by leveraging the library of existing interviews from other
jurisdictions and the Odyssey
Guide & File authoring tool. This provides courts an easy way to produce
online interviews that apply the business rules of the court and guide
pro se litigants with relevant and informative content about the rules
of the court.
Early adopters of Odyssey Guide & File include the Council of Magistrate
Court Judges of Georgia; the South Dakota Unified Judicial System; the
State of Idaho Judicial Branch; Eighth Judicial District Court in Las
Vegas; and the Second Judicial District court in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
“We are very enthusiastic about our partnership with Tyler and the Guide
& File solution. This technology allows us to take all of the court’s
information systems, databases, knowledge, statutes, rules and more, and
put it in a format that people unfamiliar with the court system can
understand,” said Greg Ireland, executive officer, Second Judicial
District Court in Albuquerque, N.M. “With Guide & File, pro se litigants
can create court documents on their own in a relatively short amount of
time. Considering that nearly 85 percent of our family court litigants
are self-represented and are the working poor, this is a huge benefit to
pro se litigants and to the court.”
The Web-based Guide & File application was designed to seamlessly
integrate with Odyssey File & Serve, for electronic filing. The Guide &
File application increases the number of filings entering the court
electronically, decreases erroneous filings and frees up court resources
for other priorities. In addition, courts can improve the pro se
litigant experience with Odyssey Guide & File’s self-guided interviews —
which works much like popular tax-preparation software — simplifying
complex legal filings for everyday citizens. It also offers litigants
the flexibility to complete the interview anytime, from anywhere.
Completed forms can be submitted electronically via e-filing
functionality, printed and submitted at the counter, or sent via the
mail.
“With the launch of Odyssey Guide & File, Tyler Technologies is
expanding services to the courts to help further increase access to
justice with an easy-to-use solution that makes courts more efficient
while simplifying the process for pro se litigants,” said Bruce Graham,
president of Tyler’s Courts & Justice Division. “We’re excited to see
several courts already adopting the technology, and we look forward to
helping them further streamline how courts work with self-represented
litigants.”
In conjunction with the launch of Odyssey Guide & File, Tyler is
announcing its partnership with Pro Bono Net, a national organization
that is a nonprofit leader in promoting the effective use of technology
and collaboration to promote access to justice, and to support pro bono
and legal aid attorneys, bar associations, courts and others working to
assist low income or disadvantaged clients.
