Home furnishings retailer West
Elm announced today that it will open a new retail store in
Washington, D.C. on Thursday, October 23rd, 2014 at 9am. Located in
Logan Circle, the more than 14,500 square foot store will feature a
curated selection of products made by artists located in the D.C.-area
through West Elm’s LOCAL
initiative. The store will also feature an expanded West Elm Market
assortment including products for the functional areas of the home. To
celebrate the opening, a limited edition Washington, D.C. tote bag
designed by Typecase
Industries will be given away to the first 300 shoppers with a $50
minimum purchase. The Local Circle store is West Elm’s second retail
location in Washington D.C. The first is located in Georgetown.
West Elm’s LOCAL initiative taps into local entrepreneurship by
empowering the teams in West Elm stores to find makers and designers,
building and nurturing a creative network of craftspeople. “It’s
important to us that the assortment in every store be reflective of the
community in which that store is located,” said West Elm president, Jim
Brett. “The Washington D.C. area has an incredible group of makers,
designers and crafters who we’re excited to showcase and introduce to
our customers.”
The D.C. Logan Circle store includes products from the following local
makers:
The store will incorporate both temporary and permanent art
installations that are inspired by the environment, culture,
architecture and heritage of the area including a map of D.C. made from
reclaimed lathe wood and installations made from reclaimed, corrugated
steel and weathered, industrial sliding doors. Like all West Elm
locations, the store will be a creative, community-driven space designed
to help customers discover their personal style at home. Customers can
work with a free Home Stylist in the store’s Design Center, or in their
home, to pick paint colors, fabric swatches or design a furniture plan.
The Logan Circle store will open with a first look at West Elm’s holiday
assortment, which includes an expanded collection of dining and
entertaining pieces, as well as new collaborations and handcrafted
pieces from Haiti, India, Peru and the Philippines. At opening, bedroom
furniture and coffee and side tables will be 15% off.
