American Shared Hospital Services Announces Delivery of MEVION S250 Proton Accelerator to UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health

AMERICAN SHARED HOSPITAL SERVICES (NYSE MKT:AMS), a leading provider of turnkey technology solutions for advanced radiosurgical and radiation therapy services, announced today the delivery of the superconducting synchrocyclotron proton accelerator—the key element of the MEVION S250™ proton therapy system—to the dedicated proton center now under development at the UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health.

AMS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ernest A. Bates, M.D., said, "The delivery of the synchrocyclotron for the MEVION S250 is a major step forward in the development of the proton center at the UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health. As Central Florida’s most advanced cancer center, the UF Health Cancer Center at Orlando Health is the first hospital in the Central Florida region to install a proton therapy system. Construction of the proton center is moving forward, and we expect patient treatments to begin in the first quarter of 2016."
