Fathom Events, in partnership with New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.,
invites you to celebrate the 20th anniversary of 1995’s cult
classic comedy “Friday” with a special theatrical showing of “Friday
20th Anniversary: Director’s Cut” on
Monday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. local time. In addition to bringing this
outrageously funny title back to theaters, the event will spotlight
“Friday Straight Up,” a 24-minute featurette that includes
behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the cast.
Tickets for “Friday 20th Anniversary:
Director’s Cut” can be purchased online by visiting www.FathomEvents.com,
or at participating theater box offices. The event will be presented in
nearly 400 select movie theaters throughout the U.S. through Fathom’s Digital
Broadcast Network. For a complete list of theater locations visit
the Fathom Events website
(theaters and participants are subject to change).
Marking the directorial debut of F. Gary Gray, “Friday” stars Ice Cube,
who after acting in popular films, including “Boyz 'N the Hood” and
“Higher Learning,” segued to comedy. He also co-wrote the film alongside
frequent musical collaborator, DJ Pooh. “Friday” also
stars Chris Tucker, Nia Long, Bernie Mac, Tiny 'Zeus' Lister Jr. and
John Witherspoon. The film revolves around 16 hours in the lives of
unemployed slackers Craig Jones and Smokey, who must pay a drug dealer
$200 by 10:00 p.m. that night. The film spawned two sequels: “Next
Friday” and “Friday After Next,” with a fourth film, “Last Friday,”
currently in development.
“Fathom has such a wide range of events and movies that we bring to
audiences, and we are pleased to add the comedy classic ‘Friday’ to our
line up. It’s exciting to see this fan favorite return to the big screen
after 20 years and to see it capture new fans all over again,” said
Fathom Events CEO John Rubey.
On April 14, 2015, Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) celebrates the 20th
anniversary of the film Friday with the vinyl reissue of the
double-platinum selling soundtrack Friday
– Original Motion Picture Soundtrack featuring a special, 3D
“smoking gun” lenticular album cover. When originally released, the
soundtrack went straight to No. 1 on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard
R&B Albums charts in the U.S. concurrently, and spawned the hit
single “Keep Their Heads Ringin'” by Dr. Dre, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard
Hot Rap Singles chart in the U.S., and Top 10 on the U.S.
Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks
charts.
