Ofcom Communications Market Report 2016 analyst briefing

Ofcom has today published its annual Communications Market Report into the UK's TV, radio, broadband, telecoms and postal industries.

Ofcom will host a briefing for analysts on the morning of 4 August 2016, outlining major findings from the report.

Telecoms: Total UK telecoms revenues increased by 0.5% in 2015 to £37.5bn, growing for the first time in five years, mainly due to a £0.5bn increase in retail fixed revenue.

Television: Total UK TV industry revenues increased by 3% year on year in 2015, reaching £13.6bn. This was driven by increases in net advertising revenues (up 7%) and subscription revenues (up 3%).

Internet: Over 85% of households now have fixed broadband, and over 37% of those are superfast lines delivering broadband speeds of 30Mbit/s or above. There are now (end of 2015) 39.5m 4G subscriptions in the UK, 46% of mobile subscriptions, compared to just 28% (23.7m) at the end of 2014.

Radio: Total UK radio industry revenue was stable at £1.2bn in 2015.

Post: Revenue for addressed letter mail fell 2% during the year, to £4.2bn.
