NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J. -- (Business Wire)

Axion International (OTCBB: AXIH), a leading producer of industrialbuilding products and railroad ties made from 100% recycled plastic, announced it has received its first purchase order in South America. Theorder relates to Axion’s innovative Recycled Structural Composite (RSC)railroad ties, which will be installed for an undisclosed railway lineoperator in a major South American city.

“We continue to see accelerated acceptance of our products in theinternational markets,” stated Steve Silverman, Axion’s President andCEO. “This city’s relatively hot tropical climate, typical for SouthAmerica, makes our product ideal for this part of the world. Byutilizing our patented material, designed from 100% recycled plastic, this railway line is expected to alleviate the strain on landfills bydiverting 81,000 pounds of plastic waste, or the equivalent of 365,000detergent bottles, into new uses. We look forward to meeting thistransit line’s future needs, as well as the needs of transit authoritiesthroughout South America.”

The railway line operator is purchasing various sizes of railroad tiesfrom Axion, ranging from 9’ to 20’ in length. The longer ties or “switchsets” are utilized where multiple tracks come together or split apart. These 100% recycled products will be used in the city’s main metro line, which is responsible for transporting approximately 400,000 passengersper year. The composite ties are to be used as a replacement for woodenties, which are currently being used throughout the vast majority of thecity’s metro infrastructure system.

Mr. Silverman concluded, “As an emerging growth company we realize theimportance of diversifying one’s business and maintaining a sales flowthat is not dependent on just one or two primary clients. Axion has madetremendous strides in seeding various new clients over the past severalmonths. As we expand into areas such as South America we arestrengthening our global sales network by introducing diverse newmarkets to Axion’s innovative, cost-effective and environmentallyfriendly products first-hand.”

Axion’s proprietary Recycled Structural Composite (RSC) material isinert and contains no toxic materials. It is impervious to insectinfestation, will never leach toxic chemicals nor warp. Because it islighter than traditional materials, transporting RSC is less expensiveand reduces energy costs. In addition, Axion’s products are completelyrecyclable at the end of their functional life.
