RE:nuclear energy in JapanYes, if you have to do grocery shopping with Geiger counter you probably would not want any NPPs around.
Sad reality is importing LNG and oil is wreaking havoc on trade balance. nuclear was 30% of the energy mix before the accident. Can't replace that with any combo of renewables and gas.
Couple of plants have been granted permission to start. sendai 1 got refueled last week, that't the first to go online. Of the 50 reactors that got idled post-Fukushima up to 1/3 will probably restart over the next few years. Quite a few are so old it makes no sense to refurbish them.
