BILLINGS, MT -- (Marketwire) -- 12/21/12

STILLWATER MINING COMPANY (NYSE: SWC) (TSX: SWC.U)

Stillwater Mining Company ("Stillwater") today confirmed it has received a letter from Clinton Group, Inc. and issued the following statement:

"Stillwater appreciates constructive input from shareholders and is in the process of reviewing the Clinton Group letter. Stillwater's Board of Directors and management remain firmly committed to creating value for all shareholders."

About Stillwater Mining Company:

Stillwater Mining Company is the only U.S. producer of palladium and platinum and is the largest primary producer of platinum group metals outside of South Africa and the Russian Federation. The Company's shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SWC and on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol SWC.U. Information on Stillwater Mining can be found in the Company's U.S. and Canadian regulatory filings and on its website: www.stillwatermining.com.

Looks like a shareholder revolt is brewing. The only objection I have is I see the Marathon project is viable and ebven the Clinton Group does not see or is unsure of the value and short payback with Mitsubishi as a partner.
