The set up

CPI comes in cool on May 21, setting up a rate cut on June 5.

Canada's economy is on the brink. GDP per capita is something out of a third world country. Sad.

I don't think you picked up on pattern recognition we've seen since day 1  Going to be another psych out, boc delays. Going to hold out as long as possible

I'll make a prediction and say inflation will come down from 2.9% to lower than or equal to 2.6% in April.  My crystal ball is pretty clear today.

  Appreciate you sharing your opinion TJ. do you think Tiff cuts? Personally I would like higher for longer - I think pain and a recession is required to defeat inflation. That said, it's always political - I think he cuts - Liberals/JT really need a win. But who knows. CPI will be very interesting. Hope you are well. Have a great weekend TJ.

I think there's a reasonable chance Tiff cuts in June. Earlier in the year I mentioned that Canada would not cut before June for fear of contributing to a spring housing market rally. I think it's fair to say that the spring market rally that some people predicted did not take place. Listings are surging, unemployment is increasing and short duration yields are off its highs. I forgot to mention that carbon tax will have an impact on April's inflation data but I suspect it will still come in lower than 2.9%.
