I admire your ability to buy and hold a stock for such a lengthy period of time... no can do for me! And, I'm certainly not going to tell you how you should invest/divest or what strategy you should use, when it comes to investing.  But, one thing is for sure... It's all about the timing isn't it?!  I purchased BNS in March/April of 2020. My in-price position for 800 shares ...more

Hey fellow... Relax! My comment was in reference to your statement, "... I added to CM last week... lol bad timing but it's a bank stock and I plan to hold for next 15 - 20 years." I was being genuine in my comment... "I admire your ability to buy and hold a stock for such a lengthy period of time."... after all, you did say you were going to hold CM for 15 - 20 years ...more

I think BNS was at 90 for a grand total of 3-4 weeks....and i am very calm You are a trader...I don't trade stocks that i plan to hold for my retirement they are set and forget...You can trade to hearts content And your startegy is to sell as soon as you see a profit( ie trader)

one last comment...haha i just caught this you said you bought BNS in June 2020??? that would be 3 months after the covid drop You could have bought a log of sh.t and made money back then have fun trading the bank stocks

Not sure what you caught, but I did not say I bought BNS in June 2020. You should read posts more carefully. What I said was... I purchsed BNS in Mar/Apr of 2020 @ an average price of $53.84... that was at the beginning of the covid period not 3 months after. I sold the stock @ $93, 2.5 years later... hardly a trader as you suggest. We all have to trade at some point in time, if you want to MAKE ...more

Zack, If you bought BNS in March/April of 2020 your divy would be much higher than 4.5%

Ray, yes of course... just a typo and approximation (~) ... should have read ~5.4%... I didn't go back and actually see what it was, since it was not the point or intent of my post.
Comment by zack50 on Dec 13, 2022 8:49pm
Ray, the actual dividend yield on my cost would have been ~7.6%. Cheers!

Both great. I own both. You cannot go wrong owning a Canadian bank stock. I think they are the best, solid investments in the world.
