AMCO Drug Prices

I suspect the fear of drug price caps on generics in the U.K. is being blown out of proportion.....1) I think the British government has enough on their plate with Brexit (which I anticipate will be a long process), and it's unlikely that passing legislation on price caps on generic drugs will be a priority for the government in the foreseeable future.......2) Though AMCO is now a CXR subsidiary, it is a company based in Britain, and I don't think the government is interested in making life tougher for companies operating in Britain - in fact, they are likely worried that companies will flee the country and set up shop in other EU member countries (especially true with financial services companies)........This idea that the British government is salivating at the mouth to cap generic drug prices does not seem to be based in reality - I'll believe it when legislation is put before parliament for a vote.......

There's an article in The New York Times today on just this topic. " Race to Poach London's Businesses"  by Scott, Ewing and Bray The vote results were seen as a sense of opportunity by other countries in the EU. I think Britain will be making concessions to keep companies within their borders.

Political influence is always out our control, couple weeks ago, we were talking about the uk gov aiming to fix drug pricing; now, I guess they are struggling to keep all business in uk. we all know what happens when gov wants to keep business, meaning lower taxes, reduce regulation, and less compliance warning, so on and so forth.  I thought brexit was bad for Cxr, but with a gov fighting ...more

I would also think that the government/National health service will be even more focused on saving tax dollars for citizens now .... so AMCO/Conordia may not be able to strip brands and relaunch as generics with price increases under the radar as they have done in the past..... Thank you Cookie monster for drawing my attention to Billy Kenber's twitter account as I try to get up to spead on ...more

There are actually two letters from Jeremy Hunt.  Anyone know if he is still the Health Secretary?  Things could have changed if the new PM didn't apoint him and then who cares what Hunt says.  And I also noticed there are two letters posted on Kenber's twitter account if you click on the parliament/uk/documents as there is another one written after the one to "Sarah ...more

I honestly don't think generic control is required. You have to look at the market as a whole, not just one or two drugs. If generics are on average a quarter of the price of what branded drugs (that are under price control) are selling for, then why reinvent the wheel. If these drugs were so wildly profitable (as some claim) then where's the competition? There's no patent on these ...more
