Electric Cars by 2035

Bold statements. What would international auto companies say about this? Are they going to be ready in time or are they gonna close shop?

I wonder what people in Winnipeg think about this.

Liberals say by 2035 all new cars, light-duty trucks sold in Canada will be electric

It looks like car manufacturers are on board. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g35562831/ev-plans-automakers-timeline/ As for Winnipeggers,  maybe they can finally stop lighting fires under their oil pans.

I am glad they are on board, I can't wait to see a decent family car oferred at a decent price too. Funny how we are all gonna miss HydroOne that was sold under the previous ON gov. Once the grid is overloaded, then what? What if the power is out? Do you recall when we were asked not to use the AC unless really have too?

I am glad they are on board, I can't wait to see a decent family car oferred at a decent price too. Okay, what is your idea of a decent family car and a decent price?  What is your family car? Funny how we are all gonna miss HydroOne that was sold under the previous ON gov. Why did it go somewhere?  I sure hope the Winnipeggers were not counting on Hydro one for their electricity ...more

This is not about my family. Think of a camping trip. That kind of car. Yup, white people go camping. Skiing. Kayaking. Mountain bike riding. Did your folks ever take you camping? What were they driving? Huge generators at gas stations for safety reasons mosty. You can almost always drive out of the affected area to get gas. Since most EVs will rely on the power outlet in the garage, this is ...more

"Think of a camping trip. That kind of car." OK. A Tesla Y is 60k CAD   crossover SUV has almost no maintenenace gets 500 kms per charge and runs on about $50 a month electricity.  Should take you camping.  "Huge generators at gas stations" Generators eh?.  They generate electricity right?.  I have one do you?  Now I don't even have to ...more

Queenie strikes again. He doesn't care about costs. What business or family does? Spoke like a true liberal as the current Canadian budget shows. Queenie has a great job in the top 10% range salary wise. He agrees to be taxed extra as he is part of the exclusive "rich" category. He owns a Tesla Y (or more) and goes camping with his family. A lot. He actually made the ...more

Nice retort Silk stockings.  As opposed to your in-depth assesment of: Government bad.  Green bad .  Me no like so must be bad. LMAO  GFY AH!

Queenie, You should not be ashamed. It's OK. Green is great. Decisions without cost analysis are not. Governments are what they are, it's impossible to please everyone. People like Marner are gonna pay for stuff like this, not Queenie. Queenie, btw when it the last time you paid taxes? Let's talk about what this means. All residential units will have to add superchargers. All ...more

VERY LIKELY All of Canada WILL END UP Like CUBA__With MILLIONS of VERY OLD Gasoline Burning Vehicles BEING KEPT on the Road eh !!!!!!!!!!!!!__and The GOOD Condition Ones WILL BE Worth a LOT of $$$$$$$$$ too !!!!!!!!!__DARN RUST Though Makes IT a LOT Tougher for Most Canadian Motorists !!!!!!!
Comment by TickerTwit on Jun 30, 2021 10:55am
I don't think many Canadians have the mindset required to keep 20-, 30-, 40-, or 50-yo cars running. Cubans have no choice, and they've become very good at it. .

My Thinking was That Many CDNs LIKELY Will Have BOTH__Keep the OLD Gas Burner For the WINTERS when EV Battery Range IS CUT in HALF or MORE the Colder it Gets__ALSO Their Summer ROAD Trips WOULD be BETTER Served with Their OLDIE gas burner.
Comment by TickerTwit on Jun 30, 2021 4:00pm
If we're willing to pay to keep them well-maintained, and if the government doesn't pass a law limiting gasoline sales, you may be right. Much as I'd like my current Canadian-made Civic to be the last car purchase I ever make, the engineer in me wants to see hydrogen-powered vehicles surpass EVs. Large-scale EV battery disposal worries me. .
