News of such dispostion will give this a 5% or so on the upswing, but after that it will be wait and see.  The news of a special dividend and a higher dividend at the end of the year is what excites me

it is not neutral, because they have generated over $200M in profit/free cashflow that was not reflected in NAV or the SP.  Shareholders have been enriched by 75 cents whether the company opts to retain the cash or give it back. Shareholders can always reinvest the distribution in HR shares and thereby effectively replicate a buyback if they wish by increasing their share of the pie rather ...more

Does the SP of a company always change by the exact amount of the dividend on ex-div date? The answer to that is obviously no. That doesn't mean the market is inefficient, it means that there are a bunch of factors driving SP changes on any given day - some of which are macro and are only very indirectly relevant to the company.  This is basic investing 101.  I would also add that ...more

You're tying yourself up in knots now.  One minute it's a neutral deal, and the market is efficient.  Now you think the price will correct, which means by your logic it must be a BAD deal.
