Yikes!!!....All this NOW makes sense....

Was about to post this recent development 2morrow BUT this is just too big to wait until then. Hopefully folks will get an idea of what to do if they're invested in this. It at least agives them a chance to think it through before tomorrow's opening bell.

Wow......this is now starting to make absolute sense why the Alberta's oversight/regulators were "reconsidering" ANY expansion of Fort Hills. This unfortunate disaster along with the "supposed" earthquakes tied to the oil sand operations from a few weeks ago more or less spells the end for ANY further "significant" developement in the oil sands arena. No wonder Suncor didn't make this public asap and was kept under wraps as long as possible....News link below for the unfortunate event...

Tuesday statement from Suncor said it responded Sunday to "silty conditions" at the pond. It said the water collected is surface water, meaning it is naturally occurring and includes snow melt and precipitation. "This water is not process water and is approved for discharge," spokesperson Erin Rees said. She said the region and the river see high run-off in the ...more

It's not "a disaster". This water was always going to be released. And this water is not contaminated with anything. It is simply muddy water and was being held in a pond so that the sediments would fall to the bottom. Instead, literally, some of the water spilled over the edge, into the river, where it would have gone anyway in a few days. The whoel story is BS. The toal amount of ...more

It's more the timing.  Everybody is on the war path after the Imperial spill.   Sadly generates headlines for all the wrong reasons

in the cities, we call them run off pond or retention pond.  Maybe if suncor beautify their sedimentation pond with a fountain, and other pool decoration,  environmentalists would be less alarm by it

Hello again friends. I'm posting this reply to both Mariorizzi & Barneyj44 and anyone  else that has posted a reply or has ANY doubts, questions what this really is. First, i did NOT take this lightly and post the orginal coimments/news on a whim. I usually don't react this way when it's actual news, not opinions or personal views. There "might" be a case made by ...more

Seems to me that we are talking about two separate things here - the spill and the extension approval. IMO the more serious of the two is the extension reconsideration. The reconsideration by the AER is simply part of its legislation and regulatory oversight responsibilities.   In March the AER got a scientific analysis commissioned by the Alberta Wildlife Association which provided ...more

Thx for the additional and insighful commentary to both Experienced & Migraine. I totally understand what you two are trying say or at the very least.....clarify... some muddy points, BUT unfortunately no one here, and by trhat i REALLY mean NO ONE knows EXACTLT what's going on with Suncor & the AER. We can only speculate on the publicly available information and what is beng spoon fed ...more

This is absolutely insane, that this would even be a news item, but is intended to be another idiotic headline intending to bash the oil sands and feed the ignorant masses. The facts are 5900 litres of water from a sediment pond ran into the river. The sediment pond on this site was not a tailings pond, but a pond designed to collect surface road and site runoff, snow melt, rain, etc. before it ...more

I don't think the market reaction yesterday and so far today is related to the spill as most of the pros would agree with you that this is really a non event.  As I talked about in my previous post, the greater issue is the AER now reconsidering the extemsion of Fort Hills.  This is a big deal especially since SU spent a ton of money increasing its stake in the project. For me, as ...more

Just ask Tony Beets from"gold rush" about water issues.  He has millions tied up with 2 giant gold strippers on land  where he lost water rights 3 years ago.  That is the Yukon but I image they are just as tuff  in Wood the Buffalo area.
