nofluff wrote: If I am running a wire or pipe factory I need a decent inventory of copper.

I want 30 days supply. I use a lot of copper, so when copper is balanced as now, I buy the dips until no more dips, Then I move my price up and buy and sell trying to hold price from going higher with a net daily accumulation. I watch for price dips beause of world events or scrap dump and buy extra on those.

If I only use some copper in my factory, I buy on an as needed basis to keep a one week inventory.

So my wire and pipe factory inventory may fall a bit as I try to squeeze some out at 4.60. When I get to 20 days supply, I look at the amount to shake loose at a 20 cent ip bid. I go up to 40 day supply and hope the momentum goes higher where I dump 10 days supply hoping to trigger a gap fill.

My main goal though is to keep my inventory up.

Equities r a much different ball game since there is no neccessity to buy at any time.

Exactly.  This is the difference between commodities and stocks.
