U.S. inflation higher than expected.

This is also bad news.  I wouldn't be surprised if we get back to these 'Rates higher for longer' headlines which would be a disaster for REITS.

Yesterday's CPI# was not great but it was acceptable and certainly not as bad as some are saying. For instance, if inflation had jumped too high, it would be a clear signal that central banks need to do more work by tightening rates further. That would would be worse. Or, if inflation had dropped too fast, that would be a sign that central banks tightened too fast and too much sending the ...more

Month to month statistics are not especially reliable (whether it be inflation, oil reserves or anything else) - there are so many factors that can cause a blip one way or the other, even setting aside the risk of error or manipulation in the data.  (I used to supply data to Statistics Canada at my old company and ....well... let's say it had its wrinkles!)
