Happy and disappointed

Happy with the amazing news- increase in Div, guidance, further increase in Div next year, etc. But we are only up 3.49% for the day and other stocks with no news were up more. Why? Only thing I can think of is large holders are taking profit along the way.

To understand what is happening in the oil market you have to understand how fund managers make decisions. Unlike the individual investor that can decide what to do with his money and where to invest it, fund managers do not have that option: they have to follow investment guide lines which likely are taken by the board of directors and the fund manager has no choice but to follow the guidelines ...more

Well said Windgod46, you've summed up Whitecap to a Tee!.

When Eric says generalist investor, I believe he is refering to the people running non-specialized funds. Fund managers who manage funds investing across multiple sectors. Eric would be a specialized investor -energy - and most people on this board would be retail investors.

And that is how a "generalist" is described in Eric's "industry".  So again "NO" windgod but I will give you an "A" for effort ;)
Comment by WINDGOD46 on Oct 15, 2021 8:28am
Whatever your definition of a "generalist" is the fact remains that most funds follow the trend " buy the dips and sell the rallies" and that keeps the valuations of the small and medium size oil producers suppressed. As for the CPP selling, I am not sure that is the cause of the sell off at the end of the day. I know that pension funds are regulated by Federal legislation and ...more

I believe that most comments are correct but everyone forgot one. The day trader. With the volume that is happening in Oil stocks right now, they love this. They can go in, buy 10-30k shares, make a few cents and get out. Next day rinse and repeat. Then you have that day trader that wants to short the stock, push the price down , then buy it back and get out. More and more day traders these days ...more

And I disagree, just have a look at large caps and who has been stating that this is where the generalist will come back to, and it is not only nutell, they are litening up on mids and small caps

Day Traders should go and get a real job instead of trying to live off the fat of the market. There is no money in Daytrading. As for shorting a bullish stock, it will backfire on them and if they have not drawn any lessons yet from the recent developments, they'll never do. So, what I call the market parasites, shorts et al, or another title, the Crime Syndicate whose  whole purpose is ...more

Dont short traders have to cover the dividend payments. Wondering why they would add to positions especially after Team Whitecap just raised our dividend.

Np Wind. when WCP acquired Torc the pension fund owned both. They found themselves overweight and sold an approximate ampunt of shares.  I believe if I remember correctly, it was in the range of 30 million shares. You can check this out for yourself as it is old news, but they needed to disclose the fact they were divesting themselves of those shares. Now it's done.

I really like what you said it totally make sense.  Also you never know if these fund managers , you are talking abou have  to go through there proper channels to take a position  , then in time we might see a couple of them take a position .      Does anyone out there think a large or mid size fund would find it difficult to pull the trigger for a large ...more

Actually "NO". We are up 50% in 3 weeks. The reason we struggled for about 2 months prior to that to get ant sp traction is the divestment by the cpp of a huge number of shares from their holdings. They are done selling... Mas
