K&S and Mosaic Belle Plaine are standard insitu solution mines that incorporate settling ponds and evaporaters to separate KCL and salt at the surface. GSP's process would just bring KCL to the surface and the salt would stay below in the cavern. Cavern/solution temperature and hole position in the cavern very critical as well as figuring out separation duty cycles as selective solution mining isn't continous flow like standard solution mining. No doubt selective solution mining is far more complex but if they can prove out the technology the benefits are immense.
