mine to market strategy

The Company is working toward building a 200,000 tonne-per-year Battery Anode Material ("BAM") plant in Baie-Comeau, Quebec, which is a key component of its mine-to-market strategy. Discussions are ongoing with automakers and EV Battery manufacturers to secure long-term purchase agreements. In the third quarter, testing conducted by Heraeus Battery Technology demonstrated that BAM produced from LDI graphite samples has the potential to perform at or above the standards of commercially available reference materials

GripnRip, Do you think that the 200,000 tons refers to the amount of natural graphite to be processed or the number of tons of anode material that will be produced?

MaterialsMan, Don't you think we are all simply getting ahead of ourselves here? Irrespective of the merely suggested nameplate processing capacity of 200,000 tpa suggested or whether it would be 200,000 tpa mined and processed graphite material or "BAM", this company simply doesn't have, at this moment of course, a actual joint venturing commercialization partner possessing ...more

Student1, The reason for the question has to do with time and cost required. I do not know how much natural graphite in terms of tons is required to produce one ton of anode material. I do suspect however that to build out a plant that could produce 200,000 tons of anode material would most likely cost at least 5 billion, probably more,  and take about 15 or 20 years from scratch ...more

You would need about 300,000 tons of natural graphite to produce 200,000 tons of anode material. The reason being is that you lose flake size during the shaping process. NGC is building the plant in modules and will add to processing capacity as demand increases.

Even though within my reply for MaterialsMan I too alluded to that merely suggested modules like approach to building out what is for now a merely proposed Baie Comeau project, I  do have to correct you when you suggest NGC "is" building the plant in modules and will add to processing capacity as demand increases. The representatives of this company are not yet going ...more

Point taken your right.

Thanks for that acknowledgement youknowwhat. I would have loved for your comment to be absolutely accurate and to be speaking to a successful commencemnt of that presently merely proposed idea of a build at Baie Comeau. Alas, it's not to be. By the way, NGC is trading at $0.22 - that's above book value per share of $0.18 - and is at times struggling to sustain a $0.22 share price point ...more

MaterialsMan, I did understand the question you were asking. I now also understand what you were ultimately driving at. You are correct in suggesting that the overall costs involved in all during one phase building out a raw graphite processing/selectioning plant and a battery anode materials plant comprising facility of the size suggested by Mr. Jacquemin & Co is entirely cost prohibitive ...more
