RE:RE:Let's not miss this opportunity

RE:RE:Let's not miss this opportunityBack on Jan 29, 2009--The Haida people support development that brings benefits of all kinds individual, commercial and environmental to Haida Gwaii and to the Haida Nation, said Guujaaw, President of the Haida Nation. We fully believe that, subject to confirmation of environmental feasibility, this offshore project will bring significant long-term benefits to the Haida Nation. For these reasons we are proud to be participants in the project, said Guujaaw. But---Dec 2011: The vote happened and it was no. (Elvis Davis) "the Haida have spoken and we hope you are listening. The Council of Haida Nation had openly announced that all of the Hiadas are behind the windfarm, when in reality only a small margin of Haida's were in support of this disastrous corporate adventure. Here is just one example of what the CHN was trying to get our nation involved... So what were the specific issues back then, and can they be resolved. Concerns about sea life, going into debt to finance the Haida's share of the project, migratory fowl paths, livelihoods destroyed by the windfarm, etc. From the above it appears the CHN does not speak for the people. The CHN can present their views, recommendations and options for the people to consider. If the people agree by voting, then the CHN gets the green light. Then the bigger picture, what about the other First Nations in the region who remain on diesel and also wish for economic development.
