If it ever becomes commercially available, then I think it could be a boost, but it is a long way off.  Fibre optic has been rolled out many homes in large urban centre and their downtown/commercial centres.  So, having a wi-fi router tied directly to the fibre optic cable from the provider that has a fast transfer rates and the ability to connect multiple devices without affecting performance would be a good thing, right?

It's a good thing but the router and all of the end equipment has to be modified/changed to meet the parameters of the incoming fibre. That could happen at some point in the future but I don't think I will see it.
