Oil Swami Nuttall gives nod to Suncor

Has some in his fund and if I heard him correctly is a double at $100 oil. Hard to say where oil is going, either way a great company with a nice dividend that pays us to wait.

Why would Nuttal say SU share price would double if oil goes to $100?  Wasn't SU trading at about $53 when oil was at $120? What will the SU share price be if oil stays under $70 until the USA refills its SPR at its target price? With Russia selling oil to India and China and anyone who will buy it for $50, where is the incentive for oil to go back to $100 per barrel???? The USA wants ...more

At the risk of sounding self serving or braggy, here goes. I made my first investment in the stock market in August 1969.  That's almost 54 years ago (gawd).   Probably before many of you here were even born.  During that time period, I have made a lot of money through my investments. My success over this half century has, yes, been helped by some lucky timing from time to time ...more

Great post Experienced. Elegant, gentle, but beneath the calm your message is devastating.    I can learn from your style.  We all can.

Hi Obscure1. I'll comment mainly on the first part of your post, since we both have differing opinions of the speed of transition, its effect on oil markets, and the pace of global oil demand growth.  Why would Nuttal say SU share price would double if oil goes to $100?  Wasn't SU trading at about $53 when oil was at $120? When oil hit a war peak of $120, companies and the ...more

The reason it could double is there debt level is a fraction of what is was when oil was 120. Also shortly they will be increasing excess cash flow to share holders once they hit the next debt level.

Oil was at $120 per barrel 9 months ago when the price of SU was trading at $53 per share..  SU's LTD was $10 billion at the end of 2022 Q2.  By the end of the year, it was $7.5 billion. The fact that SU has the free cash flow to reduce debt is a good sign, but it doesn't boost earnings by much.  The annual savings on $2.5 billion debt at 5% is about $125 million.  SU ...more

Actually when I think about from a common sense perspective share price doubling.  I'm not sure.  But getting to 60 I think that's easy in reach  The one that could easily double would be Cenvous energy.  30 years of oil sands production plus the old Husky refinery that burned up in 2018 comes back on line.   There also slowly increasing production on some of ...more

Sorry just have to throw my two cents in on the subject. I believe history tends to repeat itself, for example when we look at the automobile replacing horse and buggy.  It was still very popular to deliver milk by horse and buggy well into the fifties, more that a half century after the automobile was introduced. Sure transition may be happening a little quicker today, but like my last post ...more

Great and thorough post as usual Migraine. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I no longer do the indepth analysis that you and Obscure do (or for that matter many others who post and share their thoughts here).  But what I do have is a half century of experience investing and also experience as being "one of them" in the industry. From this perspective, my reaction to your post is ...more

MigraineCall: I just saw your post.  I missed it yesterday. I'm kinda done posting here but out of respect for your effort and contribution to this site, I thought I would offer a couple of comments in response. 1)  Biden declared an intention to start refilling the SPR at some point with no promise of when, at or below the range of $67 to $72 per barrel.  To my knowledge he ...more

I guess over the years and especially now at my age, I try to shift through things and try to simplify things.  This gets particularly important as dementia starts to set in...lol With this as background, I look at the "debate" between Obscure and Migraine and come to the following conclusion... The fact that we are having this debate at all suggests that there are likely better ...more
