How shorters make money

When investor X buys NFG those shares get sent to their broker.  Shorter Y borrows those shares from the broker and sells them at market price on the condition that those shares have to be replaced/brought back on demand.  Shorter Y then does everything within their powers to drive the stock down.  The further down NFG goes the more money they make.

These public bullboards attract their share of shorters and shorter trolls who are trying to use these bullboards to make money.  When someone writes that NFG is overvalued is that an honest opinion or a quest for dollars?  Shorters flooding the marketplace with their wild claims is nothing new.

Every million ozs of gold in the ground is worth one billion USD in profit to NFG or $5 USD/share.  How much gold NFG will have is an unknown at this time.  I will speculate 4-5 million ozs at Keates-Iceberg alone.  That is why I ignore the shorter trolls.

Eh retired, these  public boards attract pompous pumpers who have no clue how to discuss properly the status of a company and it's potential future., or failure.   Majors have come and gone and looked hard at NFG.  Nobody is biting.  I think the cost of putting up a mill and the time it takes to get everything into place is a real killer, like maybe 200 million more ...more

E123, Unfortunately, I think you may have hit the nail on the head. The Flashboys, artificial intellegence, algorithems, instantaneus trading et al seem to have taken all the fun and relative predictability out of investing the old fashioned way. It's now a big game for sophisticated gamblers.  It's becoming very difficult to make money in mining stocks, junior or senior. I remain ...more

Try investing longer term.  All the noise you just mentioned goes away. Speculators don't stand a chance against the computers.  They haven't for a long time. If the world is going to hell then I recommend gold, and gold in the ground is the best value.

Short sellers find it easy these days to take a position, in comparison to earlier times. Many brokers would not take short orders,.and if they did, then the trade had to be executed on an uptick, in accordance with Stock Exchange regulations. This restriction , frequently, was abused by brokers' trading accounts, particularly when a spec' was in a downward spiral. The authorities seldom ...more
