I like  why I invested in Tahoe and must agree that I was aware of some of the issues that were facing the company but looked at the presentation/comments that management has made and have to accept the current position.

Guatamala has tremendous potential in the mining area similar to Canada and they need to ensure that not only the indigenous rights are looked after but the environmental. Bottom line can never be the sole over riding reason to develop a mine.

That said Guatemala has been a kicking stone for not only political ideology but environmental ideology to the detriment of a industry that has help many societies out of poverty.

Politically I see the main stream goverment supporting the industry but it now needs the justice system to recognize the rights of all that have invested in the development of an economy that requires socially conscience investment...

Tahoe has a 25 year licence to make this happen, I hope it does not take that long for the people to recognize the benefit of a high paying industry that has made obvious mistakes in the past but has taken significant strides to remedy past sins.

Remember it is the guatamalan mining ministry that has been taken to court not Tahoe.

People said the same kind of things about jobs and the economy in regard to Pacific Rim's mine plans in El Salvador.    It didn't matter.   Politicians and courts often make decisions that have more to do with votes and power than common sense.   Maybe the Guatemalan mining industry would not be under such fire if Tahoe's leaders had handled things better ...more

Agree, but the challenge is based on the body of work the ministry did in providing the license not the consultations the company carried out with the locals. If as management says they have the local support then it comes down to how the indigenous people were engaged or as current management is saying there is no indigenous community located within the mines mining rights... The courts need to ...more

That is just wrong....this goes back many years....you sound like a company stooge or someone trying to unload their stock. If it was just people being zealous and fanatical or it was about greasing palms do you think it would have made it to the Canadian courts?   Mutually beneficial?  Tell that to the people who were shot. https://www.biv.com/article/2017/1/court-lets-lawsuit ...more

Weeble, The people who were shot were attempting to impeded mining activity and the ability of employees to get to and from the mine/operations. I have to sympathy for them. The local rabble just want more money from Tahoe. People always want to take from the rich rather than go out and work hard to make it for themselves. Guatemala is a 3rd world shithole. The people should be happy to have the ...more

You are probably just a typical stockhouse moron and troll but if you really feel that, you should be ashamed of yourself. Even if it was true, why didn't the company inform investors when the mine was closed down in early June?   Isn't that material information?   And then why, while this was all going on, did they go on a junket? I think at this point, I would ...more

More corrupt savages and rabble, only look our for themselves....Marburg the new stockhouse keyboard kommando and new king of morons thinks they deserved to be shot. Dear Weeble, Thanks for your comments. However, I will not demean myself by engaging in a juvenile tit-for-tat name-calling session with you. Best, Konrad von Marburg II

But you will say that protesters deserved to be shot.

Weeble, Yes, if they are endangering the lives of Tahoe employees.  Best, Konrad von Marburg II

Yeah, such a danger that protesters were shot in the back.   Such a danger that one guy was shot 3 times in the face at close range and 8 people killed including one young girl shot and killed while she was  climbing into her father's car.   I am sure she deserved it, eh?  All charges and responsibility denied by the company of course.   You may think the ...more

Weeble, Are you a Tahoe investor, or some kind of rabid environmentalist? Please desist with your abusive behaviour towards me, and try to conduct yourself with some decorum if not dignity. Your continued bloviations regarding your feelings about my opinons are tiresome and irksome. Laissez-les manger le gateau. Best, Prince V.M. II

Thanks for asking.   I am a long time investor in resource stocks for over 40 years and spent many years working in the third world.  I understand how bribes, corruption and illegal blockades can hurt companies.  I understand how some good companies sometimes end up being screwed through no fault of their own.   I believe, however that you can be both moral and ...more

Weeble, similar story here. Have been investing for over 30 years, work in the mining industry, and have done a few years in the developing world. When asked if mining is a force for good or a force for evil, I think that the only realistic response is that it is a force. Good or evil depends mostly upon the government and the social structure, within which companies work. It's all very easy ...more

Von, From what has happened in the past we can safely say that the greasing of palms has been the standard business practice in Guatemala. Whether an employee at Tahoe was involved in this type of behaviour has never been proved nor have I seen any accusations of this type. A significant amount of publically traded multi-national companies are trying to remove corrupt transactions from their ...more
